Preevanda K. Sapru
Preevanda received her B.A. from Jammu University and her LL.B. from the University of Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India. After being called to the New Delhi Bar and practicing law for 3 years, she obtained her Master of Laws in Public International Law from the University of Minnesota. She then immigrated to Canada and obtained a second LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and the Joint Committee of Accreditation. She articled at Green & Spiegel and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1998.
She has been practising exclusively in immigration and refugee law since 1998 and has been working in association with Leigh Salsberg since 2011.
Preevanda assists clients with applications for permanent residence, including under the Federal Skilled Worker program, the Canada Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Programs, family sponsorships, humanitarian and compassionate applications, work/visitor/study permits, refugee claims, PRRAs, and citizenship applications. Her extensive litigation practice includes appeal work at all three divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court of Canada.
From 2006 to 2011, Preevanda was the immigration lawyer affiliated with the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic. She developed a specialty working with women survivors of violence and continues to work closely with women’s shelters throughout the GTA.
Preevanda has been an active member of the Refugee Lawyers’ Association of Ontario and has served as head of its educational committee and as a member of the Access to Justice Committee. She has mentored numerous people seeking to work in the immigration field, including lawyers, articling and law students, paralegals and consultants.
Preevanda speaks fluent Hindi, Kashmiri and Punjabi, and works with interpreters in all languages.
