Leigh Salsberg
Leigh is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. She has been practicing exclusively immigration and refugee law since 2004 and in association with Preevanda K. Sapru since 2011. She represents clients in all types of immigration matters, from family sponsorships to refugee claims to work and study permits to national security cases. She has litigated at all levels of the immigration and refugee system: the Immigration and Refugee Board, Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada.
Leigh has been and continues to be involved in legal challenges to the Safe Third Country Agreement as counsel for Amnesty International, the Canadian Council for Refugees and the Canadian Council of Churches.
Leigh has mentored lawyers in immigration and refugee law, both on behalf of Legal Aid Ontario and independently. She has assisted in supervising law students at a community legal clinic and in her own practice. As former chair of the Access to Justice Committee of the Refugee Lawyers’ Association of Ontario, she worked on successful campaigns against cuts to Legal Aid Ontario funding for immigration and refugee services.
Leigh can communicate in Spanish and French, and works with interpreters in all languages.
